Miraflores Bridge
This is my first painting.
It seems the bridge was hidden away for
many years. It is three hundred years old or more though it has been
reconstructed many times and has had different forms.
A picture that my friend Godoy sent me has
served as a model. Fran, you know I don´t want to paint exactly a photo —I
would not know how to do it— because I think there are cameras for that so I
love stop in little details and emphasize them.
Presumably the bridge was whitewashed, but
after all it has suffered has missed its glamour even though for me its current
state lends it its personality, graffiti included.
I am aware there are many things to
improve: the leaves of the trees, the shadow of the bridge and water, highlight
the light… I wanted to leave it like this way because I don´t dare to proceed (I
already know that in art there is no cowardice) because I am sure I would spoil
it and, besides, I like it.
This time I am not going to ‘recycle’ it, as
a classmate says. The painting will part of my Fagin´s project. It will be
saved.
Any artist who saw it would find many
mistakes. For example, my teacher, who is teaching me to paint the foliage and
give glazes on certain planes (besides begging me not to destroy it).
I am not satisfied about the bridge reflex
on the water. That shadow might be a bit darker but I didn´t achieve it
although I tried to use the same technique of sky, that is, using layers that
are gradually diluted in greenish tones.

P.S. After a whole course, this is what I
have achieved. Please, Fran, do not be too hard on me.
