The Proposal
Dear Fran,
I have received a proposal to do a series of paintings dedicated to the Carmona Necropolis. What do you think?
What a responsibility I have accepted! This
is my first engagement and I am already feeling the pressure. For the first
time I am going to work on a proposed theme, although it is true that I will
have complete freedom to choose the models, the technique and the size of the
works.
This series — I don't know what I'll title
it yet — will give me the opportunity to practice each painting in a different
way, trying to reflect the painting style of my favorite artists. I can already
see funerary urns in the style of N. de Staƫl, the faces of ancient Romans in
the style of L. Tuymans or the small, calm elephant, in restless movements by
E, de Kooning... Wow!
It's not the same to paint something that
catches your attention, that nobody else knows about, and that you start
painting without the stress of having to do it well because someone is waiting
for you to show him the result. But you know, Fran, that I like risk and that
I'm going to put all my effort into creating something different on each
canvas.
I have already been collecting graphic and
literal information about the place and I have seen the dimensions of the
exhibition hall. It is a small room, so I plan to use small formats, although I
will possibly leave the figure of the charming little elephant for last, in a
larger size.
Dear friend, I am very excited and as soon
as I finish writing these lines I will start preparing the media.
Y. a.
Mary
