Against the tide
What´s
philosophy for? The history? What can we do with our mother tongue?
Professor
Sónia Múrias thinks that we must reconstruct the idea that one has about the
Humanities, beco sem saída ou um passo
para o desemprego, and that they should be valued mainly in companies and
even – she says it almost begging - in politics.
In
politics? In a world where the wildest competition, nudges and hinders are
encouraged, how to stop to form and take philosophers on?
Ethics?
The lie, the egotism and the insatiable desire to have more and more leaves no
room to act with justice or solidarity. If I look back I can't imagine those
bosses and subordinates of the Borstal talking about equity, of helping the
other... If you went for a run you had to be the first to cross the finish line
even if it was helped by some naive trip.
However,
despite everything, it provides a lot of joy that some lads, having
been able to study careers with more employment and better salary, choose
writing and words because they help us pay attention to small but important
things. Young people worried about new nationalisms, the flourishing of the
extreme right and climate change. Young people, in short, who care that we
continue to maintain a degree of freedom that the machines cannot take away
from us.
From
my Borstal.
