New emperors

Celebrities like Trump, Putin and some Trump and Putin trainees have in common a self-esteem beyond doubt that rests primarily on the conviction that they belong to a select race and a country that deserves its Lebensraum - nowadays economic - because 'all nation needs enough space to meet its growth and ensure its survival.’

According to the article by Luke Cooper, October 28, that appeared in The Guardian, this new way of dealing with political, geopolitical activities, I would say, is making it possible that there are strong interests in extending the presence of some countries over others that have to bend and accept a 'help' in exchange for, when not 'protection' versus to.
Mr Cooper says that the hope that had been placed in multilateral relations in Europe and in the presence of supranational institutions is being cornered in favour of the new empires. He is right. In my opinion, History is a cyclic organism, which is repeated always looking for a balance. Thus, when the columnist says that 'Emmanuel Macron has strengthened nationalist across the Balkan region' reminds us that the EU has not sat at the table for entry talks with Albania and North Macedonia. Breaching a commitment made previously. In this case, Europe looks, like so many times, to the other side, so it would not be surprising that these lands fell into the hands of the new thugs.
The nationalist sentiment is the lack of a more generous vision of society, of brotherhood and solidarity. I got this idea some time ago from a book by a writer born in one country and raised in another.
What´s happening with the Kurdish conflict in Syria? There they are both, Tsar and King, hand in hand, to see who is more powerful in helping one or the other. Outcome? For now, what has been lost has been the democratic ideals of the vast majority of Syrians.
On the other hand, they have been told me that Boris Johnson is a cult chap; I understand that he ‘knows’ Latin and Greek, but that he behaves as if he were not because he´s interested in convincing the populo. He is a politician who has signed up for the emerging fashion of populism, a path that has real danger. Possibly he will elected in the next elections and with the reins of the British government and the support of the masses, who worship him as a leader who understands their desires, he will be thrown into the arms of one of the modern emperors. By then, I will have renewed my passport and will be savouring um copo de vinho verde sitting at a table on the terrace close to my house.

From my Borstal.
