Forty-fourth day of quarantine
Dear Friend,
from yesterday to today only 288 people
have died of coronavirus. It is the first time that it has dropped from 300,
although, they say, during the weekends, the count of unfortunate cases is less
because all the people are not working and you have to wait for these to be
computed on Monday or Tuesday. Either way, to myself, it is a very positive
thing, because I have known this observation since the beginning of the
pandemic.
I heard this figure this morning while
having breakfast. Likewise, I also heard a doctor, Ivan Moreno, speak on the radio who has lifted my mood; and I wonder how much we would all have earned
if in all countries there were more people dedicated to medicine and research
with the serenity, good sense and wisdom of this man. With what frankness and
naturalness he has answered the questions that the radio station journalist asked
him!
Fran, you know that I like, Saturdays and
Sundays, to listen to a program that is titled ‘A vivir que son dos días'; and I find it very interesting and
enjoyable at the same time.
Mr Moreno,
with amazing ease, has said that before finding a vaccine, a way will be found
to treat people. He recounted the case of a man over eighty years old, sick
with this virus, who was treating him very differently than he would have
treated him two weeks before. That in just two weeks many more things were
known about this disease and that knowledge was being incorporated, day to day,
to hospitals. He went on to say that the best thing that could happen to a
person was, obviously, not catch it, but what if he had to catch it that he did
it in the autumn (this, of course, a bit of a joke) because surely the bug
would be more controlled. Very comforting and hopeful words that I have welcomed
with open arms.
