Style
Dear Fran,
I do not have a clearly defined pictorial physiognomy that makes my works instantly recognizable. And that's how I want to continue for the moment.
In music, sculpture, literature... I like
the artist to surprise me with each piece. Consequently, I don't want my work
to be homogeneous or repetitive. I have long since put aside the assertion of a
personal aesthetic and I don't care in the least if some amateurs and so-called
experts in painting are bothered by this.
I aspire to my own way of composing, even
if to do so I have had to draw on the work of others who have come before me.
I neither have nor should I hide the fact
that reminiscences of previous works by those who preceded me are something
natural, of course, and I try to imprint my personality on each canvas I begin.
Continuing to do what everyone else is
doing would not be a merit for me; I prefer to go further with my 'style' and
fail in the attempt than to adapt to the dictates that gallery owners and
pseudo-experts dictate these days.
Y. a.
Mary
